Dear Supervisor Davis, Supervisor Shepherd, and Supervisor Shirley,
As a resident of Apache County, I am writing to voice my support for the Lava Run Solar & Battery project. I believe this solar-plus-battery project proposed for our community can be a lifeline for an area that would otherwise lose a huge portion of its tax base, so I see it as the key to Apache County’s future and that of our children.
Similar to our now-retiring coal plants, the Lava Run Solar & Battery project will be a long-term asset we can rely on to prop up our tax base, pay tax dollars to support our public service and infrastructure needs, and create jobs. From what I have read, power plant workers have many skills that are transferable to the solar industry. I have also spoken to the Lava Run team, and they are looking into regional workforce development opportunities. Things like that let me know that they are paying attention to what is happening in our economy and want to work with us to provide for our future.
Apache County has survived by helping power Arizona for decades, and the Lava Run Solar & Battery project is an opportunity to continue doing so, this time with an energy source that does not pollute the air and drive up our health costs. Please join me in my support, and let’s ensure a brighter future for our families.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
